Questions
Questions we hear often
How do I find out my street's day?
Send your neighborhood or street through the form, or text it to (520) 555-0101. We write back with your day, or tell you it is full and put you on the list.
What if my day is full?
Each weekday holds only as many homes as two people can visit without rushing. If yours is full, you go on the list for the next opening and we tell you roughly where you stand. We do not squeeze you in.
What does a plan cost, and what is not in it?
Each plan is billed once a year, and the price is written in your plan agreement. Neither pays for parts or repairs, and neither is insurance. You can cancel before the renewal date.
What if my system quits on a weekend?
We work Monday to Friday and do not staff nights or weekends. Call or text and we will tell you the next weekday we can be there; members' repair calls go first. If anyone in the home is at risk from the heat, call 911 or get somewhere cool.
Do I need to be home?
Someone 18 or older should be there for the indoor part of the visit, so we can reach the thermostat and the indoor unit. The outdoor check does not need you.
Do you service evaporative coolers?
Yes: pads, pump and water line, at start-up in spring and shut-down in fall. It is quoted separately and is not part of either plan.
Should I repair or replace?
We weigh the age of the system, what the repair would cost against a new one, the refrigerant it uses and how the house feels. It goes in your written report, never in a pitch at the door.
What size system do I need?
The size comes from a load calculation for your house: its walls, windows, attic and ducts. A bigger unit is not a better one, and the old unit's size is only a starting point.
How often should I change my filter?
Follow the maker of your system. Many homes change it more often in the summer. A thicker filter is not always better: use the highest rating your system can breathe through, such as MERV 13 where it supports it.
Do air purifiers and UV lights work?
The EPA does not certify air cleaners, and filtering the air does not fix moisture or mold. We do not sell ozone generators. If you have a breathing concern, ask us what a better filter can and cannot do.
Do you pull permits?
For a replacement, yes, where the city or county asks for one. A tune-up or a repair does not need a permit.
What does the warranty cover?
Equipment makers warrant parts on registered equipment, and the terms are theirs. Our labor terms are written on every quote before you say yes.
My carbon monoxide alarm is going off.
Get everyone out of the house first, then call 911 from outside. Do not go back in. Call us after the fire department says it is safe.
